“Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.” – Luke 12:6-7
A few years ago I taught an adult Sunday school class from these 2 verses on the subject of ‘The Value of the Child of God.” In the lesson I used a $10 bill. I took the clean and crisp bill and held it out for everyone to see. Everybody agreed that the bill was $10 in American currency. Then I crumpled the bill in my hands and asked if it was still worth the same amount. Everyone agreed it was. Then I threw it on the floor and stepped on it and then asked if it was still worth the same amount. Again, we all agreed it was. Regardless of what I did to the bill, the value of it never changed.
The same is true of the Christian. Trials and storms are a given in this life we live. We are fooling ourselves if we think we can make it through life without having to weather a storm or survive a hardship. These are inevitable. We must understand that just because we face these storms or trials does not change the value of who we are in the eyes of God. We tend to look down on someone on facing a hardship or a really tough time, but that storm hasn’t changed their value.
Regardless of the storm, you can still be used by the God. Regardless of the storm, you can make it and survive and live to see and serve the Lord another day. There are typically 3 areas of the storms that scare us as Christians. They are the force, the source, and the course of the storm. Regardless of these areas, we are still valuable in the eyes of God.
No matter how many times we are stepped on by this world or how hard the devil works to crumble us, it doesn’t change our value in the eyes of the Lord. We are still valuable to Him. To take things a step farther, He even considered us worthy of dying for. He gave His best for us while we were at our worst for Him. My friend, that is a love which far compasses the comprehension of mankind. Just to know that we are loved eternally and infinitely even though we are undeserving of such a love is a reminder of the power of the God we serve.
Regardless of how messed up your life is, God still loves you. Regardless of your criminal record, He still cares and loves you. Regardless of your imperfections, He still considered you valuable enough to die for. Think about the love of God today. Thank Him for loving you even when you least deserve it.
