A Thankful Heart

Lately there has been a thankful challenge on Facebook. This is not a bad thing. We should take every moment we can to stop and show our gratitude for the many blessings we receive in this life. But I can’t help but think that for some it is nothing more than just a pretty post on social media. Do we really have a thankful heart? Do we truly have a spirit of gratitude in our daily lives?

I know life is busy, but it does our hearts good to just stop for a moment and truly give thanks to God for His bountiful blessings in our everyday lives. We ask Him for things every day. We ask Him to meet our needs, to provide us with food, to help pay the bills, and to heal our sick, but how often do we just spend time thanking Him? It’s easy to thank Him when things are going right, but what about when your whole world is tumbling down on top of you? Then it’s not so easy to thank Him. We should have a heart of gratitude whether everything is going right or not.

Gratitude is actually a very good witnessing tool for spreading the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. This world watches us as Christians. When we have a thankful heart, it shows in our attitude. It will manifest itself in how we present ourselves daily. Having a heart of gratitude will put a smile on our face and a skip in our step. In turn, this will cause others around you to see the joy that you have. A thankful Christian is a joyful Christian. Others will see that joy and will want to experience that same peace.

Take the time today to just stop and give Him thanks. Don’t ask for anything; just let the Lord know that you truly appreciate what He does for you on a daily basis. God desires to hear us thank Him as must as we desire for Him to bless us. Take a moment today and just thank the Lord for giving you one more day to serve Him with.

“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” – 1Thess. 5:18
